So I have been running a custom tune for about a month now and have loved it. However, today I went for a quick drive to get some lunch and my tranny was acting a little wierd so I did some stops and starts. It seems like the tranny (which is auto) is starting in a higher gear, 2 or 3, when I start from a low speed or stop and as I try to accelerate it really lugs until the truck realizes it's not in the correct gear then it down shifts and takes off like a rocket because I've had to depress the gas so far to get it to respond. Does this sound like a tranny problem to ya'll or a tuning issue?
I have intentionally not included the tune I am running so I can allow the tuner to fix it before I say anything negative, if you guys do think it's a tuning issue. It is from one of the prefered tuners given from this site so you can rule out a cheap off brand tuner if that was going to be mentioned. Thanks for any input that you can provide. Same thing happened to me about a month ago and it was internal tranny problems. I haven't had it tore apart yet to find out exactly what went wrong I just swaped it out. But there was clutch material in the filter. Could also just be a dirty solenoid.

Think it's something I should take to the dealer or a tranny shop for?

I did. If it keeps it up I would to make sure. You sure don't want to mess it up anymore than it is. They wanted 2500 to rebuild mine

So I returned the truck back to stock today because I wanted to see if it made a difference and I had to go through emissions. Shockingly, the shifting problem went away completely. Next week I will try to reload the tune I was running and see if the issue returns.

Before you reload your tunes, disconnect your batteries for 30 min. I had a similar problem even after returning to stock and then reloading tunes. Matt recomended put the truck to stock and drive it once. Then disconnect the batteries for 30 min, then reload the tunes. I haven't had a problem since.

Well, I waited a day and reloaded the tune and everything has been fine. My truck must have known that I needed to go through emissions. It has its own brain to keep me from forgetting to renewing my tabs..Ha
