Confused about strategies.

After seeing several threads on here about strategies I'm still a little confused
about them. I've seen where some increase fuel mileage some others are known to cause problems and so on. I've also seen where PHP offers the option to reprogram it back to a good strategy. What is the best way to find out what my truck has and then once I know how do I know if its a good or bad one.

I have an SCT and that tells me what strategy I have.

What year is your truck. what work has been done to it, and when was the last time it was at ford.

Your gonna need some kind of device that can read the PCM on which calibration (stradegy) you have. SCT and some other brands will tell you what it is.

Ford would reflash the truck/car to try and resolve issues with problems that they were having with them, like poor mpg, VGT vane sticking, rerouting sensor control, ect, ect. It's like when you get updates for your PC , windows XP, XP pro, Vista, windows 7.

Now some times after a reflash (stradegy change), it does more harm than good, like worst mpg, inductive heating,Ficm killer, ect,ect. Sort of like your PC when Microsoft came out with Vista.

Bill at PHP figured out a way to revert back to the better stradegies that help out with power and mpg. You can poke around there forum to get a better idea of what's going on.

My truck is an 05 and is completely stock. I have a FCDP complete EGR delete waiting to be installed. I have only owned the truck for a couple of months so I really don't know when it was last in the shop for anything.
