Smile Heat wrapping on the exhaust pipes?

What is the purpose of heat wrapping the exhaust up-pipes, y-pipe & down pipe. I've read this on several posts relating to modifications.

It helps reduce the temps under the hood, AND contain the heat within the exhaust system to speed up the flow. Hotter air moves faster throughout your manifolds and up-pipes...feeding your turbo quicker and flowing more easily.
