Arrow Generic tunes VS. Custom

I was stumbling around the sight and found a link to Spartans free 6.0 tunes. So I found my strategy and downloaded the whole folder full of tunes.

I'm assuming these are all canned tunes?

My 6.0 is lightly modified category for sure 4" exhaust, intake, SCT tuner

Am I going to hurt anything running these tunes? The one I'm running is hybridrace which is a 140-170hp tune it runs awesome way better then the 120 hp custom tunes I have no comparison. But what I'm worried about is roasting the transmission. It defiantly shifts harder. Im not studded yet. But I haven't seen boost over 30 psi. From what I've read anything over that you start blowing head gaskets?

Am I crazy to run free tunes on my truck? Or should I just pony up for a good tune from innovative? Thanks for the help

You found "free" tunes online? Not sure I would trust that personally. If you are thinking of running tunes, get gauges first.

They are ok tunes. There were some issues with previous downloads though. Some froze and forced people to get their pcms reflashed.

I've never heard of that. U mean all of a sudden everything could just go haywire, like it not start or would it just die goin down the road then need towed?

Should I **** can the free tunes?

I mean they could freeze mid download. Far better off getting custom tunes

i gave the spartan hybrid race a try with making the 2nd-3rd shift pressure softer by 5% and then it drove perfectly fine. It all depends on the truck, the firm shifting wont kill your transmission, if anything it will help it last longer due to crisper shifts putting less wear on the clutches. I would go with a custom tune from IDP, Gearhead, TSD, KEM or Quicktricks.

The problem with the spartan tunes is they cant be altered at all besides the shift pressures on the SCT itself... get something custom its cheap enough

they are all generic lol. when i ordered my "custom" tune from IDP, all they wanted to know was if the truck had egr or not and if it had studs or not. so i assume they check "yes" or "no" on said questions, and whatever they have pre-set is what you get. not quite custom if you ask me.

i ran the spartan tunes for a week or so, they worked fine in my truck.

yeah that's kinda true. but in your case you could have had input in your tune from innovative. i'm sure they all have base files which is what the FREE spartan tunes were. and from the base file is where they can tweak things for your actual truck, engine mods, tire size, driving style, less smoke, TC Lock Up. i would think that the spartan tunes that were put up on the website when they stopped tuning are in between custom and canned SCT tunes.
