FICM Upgrade 58vt. + performance > question
if I upgrade the FICM to 58vts. ....how much more does the performance option add ? is it worth the extra $ 150 ?

ok, theres a few thing to know about the upgrade. if you pull a lot of heavy trailers (6000 or more) you should not get the 58v kit, it will cause wire failure. if you dont pull trailers often then i would say spend the money and get it. the upgrade will not give you any direct performance per say. the 58v kit will give you better injector performance, the injectors on the strucks are know to have sticktion, the extra voltage will give the injectors better magnatism so they operate smother. the upgrade will also help cold weather starts as well. if you plan on other upgrades like a ficm reprogram, injectors or anything else it does work great in with those as well. i have had mine for 6 months and truck runs great. i dont always plug the truck in and even at 5 degrees and the truck sitting 6 hours it will start right up, cranks maybe 2-3 times with one cycle of the plug. hope this helps

according to dave @ swampys ...the electronics used now will not cause any issues towing .... just seeing if it is worth the extra $$$

yea, they talked about being more accepting of towing with the 58 in a post a couple days ago.

seems like if you do it right and upgrade all of the other circuit boards and components with those capable of handling the voltage increase than it shouldnt be dangerous while towing at all.

The FICM tuning is WELL worth the cash.

I will second the tuning is worth doing. The 58v FICM will tow fine and is not a problem.
