Programmer Question
Maybe you guys can help me. I am buying a programmer in about a week
and i had started a thread a while back about which programmer to get and yall convinced me that the SCT X3 is the best for my truck (6.0). I was wanting some final thoughts before i make this purchase. Should i get the SCT X3? Is that the safest and best bang for the buck? and after i buy it what custom tunes should i get? Also when i buy the custom tunes can i just buy them offline and upload them to the programmer off of the computer or do i have to send the programmer off to get it tuned? Thanks! Oh yeah and one more question why is the SCT the best programmer for the 6.0's??

If you go on any forum that has a 6.0 section, 90% or higher of the answer will tell you SCT for the 6.0. Just like any other make truck (dodge, chevy) they have there specific tuner that works best for there truck.
SCT has the best programs for the 6.0, along with the most options on who you want to get custom tunes from. Also if you run into issues with the SCT there are a ton of member that give you a hand with resolving any issues. Along with the SCT support is very good. After you get you x-3 your gonna go to SCT website to download the drivers and software for the device, then you need to hook it up to the truck to get the strategy code to give to your custom tuner so he can send you the proper files. Then you will get the custom tunes sent to you by e-mail, and save them to your PC. After you have the custom tunes, you can plug in the x-3 and load up the custom files. Now you can hook up the x-3 to the truck and load in tunes. When you goto load tunes, the x-3 will pull out your stock file and paste in the custom file. Once the x-3 has the stock file in it, you can go to your PC and save a copy of the stock file to your PC just in case you have issues later on. After you have your custom tune files and your stock file, save them onto a flash drive just in case your PC takes a dump, you wont have to buy new ones. As far as what tunes to get, this will depend on what you want to do with the truck. Towing, racing, week-end warrior!! Just let your tuner guy/girl know what you have done to the truck so they can set you up with the right tunes. |

If you run into any problems tuning your truck let me know as I'm right here in the lowcountry and I'll be happy to give you a hand setting it up if needed. I'm running the SCT X3 with Innovative, Matt Gearhead and Spartans tunes. As the others said just let the tuner know what modifications you've done to your truck and they account for that in the tunes.

The X3 doesn't have canned tunes. You'll need to send your truck strategy to a tune writer, and they'll write your tunes based on which strategy/mods you have. |

Okay so does the X3 come with tunes i can run until i can get my custom tunes? It might be a while before i can get a custom tune and i dont want a programmer sitting around the house that i can use until i get the custom tunes, it will drive me crazy. And if it doesnt is there another programmer from sct that i can get from sct that is the same as the X3 that comes with 3 out of the box tunes. Thanks!
