Tuner Question

I have an 04 F-250 6.0, as far as I know it is completely stock. I want to make it tow better but stay reliable. I will be making a few trips from Georgia to Texas next year. I want to straight pipe it and get a tuner, but not sure what tuner to get or if I can even use one. I want to avoid having to put heastuds in it. So my question is, is there a tuner or programmer I can use without having to worry about the head gaskets/studs?

SCT!!! with custom tuning.

I don't tow very much, or very heavy, but I've got a few tow tunes that run real nice

Thanks for the input. I dont know very much about this tuner. How do you go about getting a custom tune?

Scroll down to the 6 Liter section

SCT Diesel Part # SCTX3IDP - SCT X3 Programmer- IDP Custom Tuned - Diesel Performance Parts

I'd recommend either one of these companys for your tuning needs. There are others out there that are good, but Eric at Innovative and Matt at Gearhead are my choices.

Hypertech PTM

I have been using it for three years with no trouble towing my 38 ft. fifth wheel camper and my twenty ton gooseneck
The unit is easy to install and it is adjustable on the fly.
It isn't as powerfull as the sct but it does a nice job without the problems that go with them.

But dosen't tune the TCM (transmission), which is THE most important thing when towing. SCT tunes the TCM
