Used SCT Tuner w/custom tunes...will it work???

A local guy is selling his SCT X Calibrator 2 for $150, he says he used it on his 05, which is now sold. It has 3 custom tunes by Eric from Innovative, he says it'll work with any 6.0, all I have to do is send Eric my truck's strategy. Is this true? Or will I have to pay for the tunes all over again?

it may or may not, depends what his stratgey was and what stratgey yours is.

In case our strategies are different, can I just call Innovative and tell them my strategy changed so they can rewrite the tunes?

they will only "rewrite" for the original owner and its only for a certain amount of time. If they aren't usable, you will need to buy new tunes, they are around $160 for 3

Seems that any tune written to any strategy will work with any strategy. Before my FICM went out, I had the VXCF4 strategy. I had all tunes written to that strategy. After FICM replacement, I have the VXCF9 strategy. I asked Eric if he could rewrite my tunes for me because of the update - he said of course he could (for a cost), but the tunes I have will work just fine. And they do. So, I'm running VXCF9 strategy and tunes written for VXCF4, and they work just great. You can probably buy the tuner and it will work just fine as-is.

So what's the point of sending them your strategy to get your tunes written if they work for all strategies?

they are not all cross compatible like that. If you could get the tuner for $100 then add custom tunes to it, that wouldn't be a bad price at all.
