even without the vin number you can still tell a difference. Now you psyched your self into thinking its louder. Funny how the mind works. My 03 out whistles any 05 or newer f250 ive came across. Love that sound!

4" straightpipe

Not to ask a dumb question, but what difference does the year of the turbo make? I ask because a: I don't know and b: I want to put a 4"MBRP straightpipe on my '04, but dont know if the 4" down pipe will fit or if I have to "massage" things a bit,...

The 03 and early 04 turbos had a louder whistle (chicks dig it) and supposedly put a little more power down than the later turbos. And full on 4 inch exhuast with a 4 inch down pipe will give you some trouble installing. That's why most pipes come with a 3.5 inch down pipe.

the 03 turbos has a louder whistle due to the 10 blade design rather than the later with a 12 blade design on the exhaust side which is what creates the whistle. I don't think there is any power difference...just the cool sound.

The 10 vanes in the exhaust housing the open and close creating quick spool times cause the louder whistle than the 12+ vane designs on later models. Not sure why. Just does. Accept it and be happy
