Who has gutted their cat converter?
I'm considering hollowing out my cat until I'm ready to make my exhaust system upgrade. Is there any downside to doing this? I live in Florida so I don't have emissions inspections to deal with. I just want better flow to keep up with my new AFE basicly.

i just did this to my '06. peice of cake...15 minutes, sounds stock, will not attract attention from dealer. i also replaced just my muffler with an aeroturbine with the resonator...sounds stockish, maybe a little thoatier. got about a 1 mpg increase on next tank. have you done the zoodad mod for your afe?

Cat conversion
Did you have to dismantle the exhaust from the tailpipe forward or is there enough wiggle room to get the cat out? Also, did you have to get a new tailpipe section to use the aeroturbine? I was considering doing the same thing but it is not a direct replacement. I'm not sure what you mean about the AFE..... but I did have to replace the original Stage II intake system entirely, with the revised edition as I threw a CEL immediately. The new Stage II is a simpler, much less expensive version and not too many vendors are selling it yet. From what I understand the fix for the 6l Stage II was to fit a smaller intake pipe leading to the turbo and this seemed to defeat the whole purpose, not to mention it was months out. Thanks for the input guys Scott Last edited by Cyclist 06 : 04-19-2006 at 04:46 PM. |

you dont need to touch the tailpipe to gut the cat. there is plenty of wiggle room. as far as the muffler, after cutting out the factory one, loosen the tailpipe from the gutted cat pipe and spin it 180 degrees so that the pipes before and after the muffler line up straight. the aeroturbine muffler is shorter so you will need a few extra inches of 3.5" pipe, which shouldn't be a problem for a race car muffler shop.

![]() I've noticed that at least one of the "other" sites has this tree hugger mentality and if you even think about using your freedom of speech and expressing a view that might go against our emission laws, they delete your post. I think their mods need to do 2 things.....FIRST - fight for your country, this freedom of speech thing is really cool. SECOND - take a trip overseas......been to China lately? How about Russia, Taiwan, Italy......we as Americans are trying to save the planet ALONE. A guy who wants to gut his cat won't make any difference in air quality. And deleting a post for doing nothing more than discussing it........??? Anyway Scotty, you're not the only one I've seen that happen to. |
