Question for Marc?

I have read your response to many threads and would really appreicate your input. I have an 06 CC 3/4 Ton with the 20's. Black as coal . The power is great and it runs fine but I was thinking of a new exhaust and air box and filter. My dealer said it would not hurt warranty unless the mods caused part failure. He said these should not. If I do this should I eliminate the cat? What kind of gains should I expect, power or milage increase if any?

Thanks,Matt

if your gonna do the cold air intake...be VARY carefull as the aftermarket filters generally increase air flow by not filtering as well.....just a warning though....

as far as the exhaust...if it was my truck and i lived in a state that did not inspect for the converter........i would run a 4" downpipe off the turbo strait back to a full four inch strait pipe.....no cat....muffler optional depending on if you want it louder or not.....as far as power and MPG....they will not be a huge increase.....i would expect 2mpg max with it probably being less than one and a minimal power increace with both mods.....but you are helping hte motor and in the long run it will benifit you with the turbo and engine.....especially if you plan on chipping it........Marc

Hey matt you can get a relatively mild chip that won't be nerar high powered enough to affect anything on your rig. Something like 50-75 horse would be fine. And for a filter I have heard that the stock 6.0 filter is a really really good filter. If you really want something other than that, try and see if you can get a BHAF (Big Honkin' Air Filter)...they're huge flow great with lots of surface area and still filter very well. As for exhaust I liked the magnaflow kit I had. Definitely dump that cat, and the muffler. They sound awesome like that!

Thanks guys, I can almost hear the rumble now. I will leave the OEM box in and scout out the magna flow.

Cat or Not?

Marc...I just happened to be at my dealership this afternoon and was discussing after market mods with one of the service guys. As I already knew, he said air intake and exhaust were a good idea and as for a chip, he mentioned the Bully Dog programmer. Yes, it will void a warranty repair if traced back to the programmer or a chip...which is nearly always the case if the dealer is anal about the mods...BUT, he said not to gut/remove the Cat or oxygen sensors. Said the Cat removal would trigger an engine service light?
Thanks in advance!

this guys must not know too much about these diesels cause there is no O2 sensor on any diesel ford has ever built including the 6.0.....and in order for it to turn a check engine light on, even if there was an O2 sensor, there would also have to be a Cat monitor (similar to an O2 sensor) after the cat. the purpose of the cat monitor is to compare its readings with the ones of the upstream O2 to determine if the cat is working.....

bottom line is this guy is feeding you a bunch of bull because there is no O2 sensors on the 6.0 and removing the cat will not turn on a check engine light......Marc
