turbo back or cat back?

Ok, what is the real differance between turbo back or cat back as far as hp gains are concerned? I'm getting ready to order my new exhaust system and am not sure I want to deal with removing the tranny crossmember to pull the stock downpipe. Can't I just order the delete pipe seperately and remove the cat and just hook up to the stock down tube? Or does it really make that much of a differance between the two systems. If I go cat back, should I keep the cat in place?

Thanks for any advise
Scott

I went with the turbo back and if I could have lost the cat trust me I would have. I did loose the muffler but at least from a sounds perspective it seems those that loose the cat too seem to like it much more.

did you do the install yourself and did the crossmember really have to be removed? Did you have to keep the cat for inspection purposes? I don't believe I have that problem here in FL.

Cut the stock downpipe (and it will come out), keep the exhaust just in case. Not alot of people know what they are looking for in big diesals, especially if you do something like bring it to some import shop that NEVER sees diesals for inspection.

if you want to replace the stock downpipe without cutting it...yes the crossmember has to be removed. the only reason i would keep the cat is if you were subject to inspection in your state....and even then you can build a "fake cat" to allow you to pass inspection..........Marc

You dont have to remove the cross member if you cut the stock exhaust in a couple places. I would totally eliminate the cat and muffler. I have 4" SS T-Back Silverline. installed it a coup[le a months ago. Fits well.

I have 2/ 4-5'' Double Wall SS Silverline tips for sale. Pm me if interested.

Sorry I missed your question Scott but yes I did my own install and the other guys are correct about the crossmember - I cut my downpipe. It's a REALLY easy install. Yes the only reason I kept the cat was for inspections or I would have gotten rid of it in a heart beat. Houston is VERY strict on emissions.

thanks

You just need to move to Florida, everyone else is. In fact I know more people that are from my home state of Jersey than I know Floridians. Plus, no emissions, no helmet laws, lower taxes, vehicle beach access, easier to bare arms as a law abiding citizen, Republican State , booming economy......... so far, I guess I could go on but won't.
I do love the new exhaust system though.
