Usually shop labor for a head stud job is between 2,500 - 3,000. Since everything is already apart for the head stud job, it would likely be another 500 or so for the EGR components. Parts for an EGR delete would be about 300, ARP studs would be about 400, gasket kits (head gaskets and intake/EGR cooler gaskets) would be 300, and various shop materials (coolant, oil, rags, etc).

Here on the forum - under 6.0 Mod Help - scroll to the bottom - find DIY EGR Delete. Print it - hand it to your mechanic (or yourself) - $50 in parts - only pay for labor whatever your mechanic charges. ARP studs roughly $385 - $425. $2K - $3K in labor to install studs.
Might as well do the head gaskets while your studding the head. Head gaskets by Motorcraft (nothing wrong with Ford gasket - its the bolts that fail first - and that is why your going with studs) - HG will cost your roughly $100. But then there is the $650 for all the other gaskets that dont come with the head gasket kit. And yes - deleting the EGR system is illegal in most states if not all. But if your state doesnt test diesels - - why not. The engine will run cleaner, better, smoother, lower EGT's and get better mileage. Seems like all good reasons to delete if you can. |
