Unplug EGR valve

So I found out that it was my EGR valve that went instead of the EGR cooler...(yes, im new to diesels)

I have read some things on the internet about people unplugging their EGR valves...

Will this hurt the EGR cooler/system/engine in any way other than a CEL???

it helps, this is not a fix but this does help I wish I knew about this when I first got the truck, would have helped mpg, temps, longevity. mpg gain is minute, unnoticeable

I've had mine unplugged for 30,000 miles on my 2003... no check engine light. Apparently the newer trucks will turn on the check engine light if you do this.

It won't hurt it!!!
My EGR valve has been unplugged for the last 2 years and the only drawback is the CEL staying on.
