sct problems

hey guys, i have an sct for my 03 auto, and i took it off my truck to let a buddy try it before he buys one. Problem is that when i try to put a tune on his truck the tuner tells me that it is not compatible. His truck is a 05, and its a stick. Is there any thing that i can do for it to work on his? Even if it is just the canned performance tune, he just wants to see how it runs before he buys one... Thanks

did you return your truck back to stock before you tried it on your buddies truck?

yes, it is back to stock.

then your device needs to be updated, its probably an old firmware

I dont know because it worked on an 06 i tried it on... and how would i update the firmware? can i do it or do i have to send it in? thanks

Check the Strategy on the '05. It is probably newer than than '06 that you had tried. You do have to update the SCT software with some of the newer Strategy's. Check the Strategy on all the trucks and give us a report back. You can go to the SCT web site and download the new software. Not 100% positive but I think you would need new Programs also.

You should not try to tune a 2006 with a 2003 tune because the strategies are different. It might work, but it won't be the ideal tune for the truck.

The best way to give him a demonstration is to let him drive your tuned truck. It won't feel quite the same as his truck, but he'll certainly get the idea and have a stupid grin on his face when he's finished.

Keep in mind that reading his strategy doesn't eat up one of your devices unlocks...but loading a tune on his truck will deminish one of the 5 unlocks....since it would then be married to his truck...once you return his truck back to stock...and then load a tune back to your truck you lose another unlock....so now you're down to 3 unlocks....then eventually you will need to send it to SCT to have it reset.
