mechanics make too much money

I took my 6.0 to the dealer because it was using coolant. The dealer said it was my head gaskets I was hoping it was just the egr. I purchased all the parts from sinister diesel. So all that's left is labor.

Husksdorf diesel, Franklin, WI-$3890--yikes!
Mikes Quality auto, Delavan, "Not interested"
Mikes auto, Burlington, WI, "I needed the work in January, but not now."
Some a*munch, kenosha WI, "I just sell diesel parts... I only work on gas motors."

ANy suggestions? What is a fair price on labor for head gaskets, studs, egr delete, and new oil cooler.

If the Delavan is including labor for head gaskets and egr delete, it is very fair!

By the way the mechanics are not getting the bulk of that money. IT'S THE DEALER! Mechanics don't make enough if you ask me

i agree i am a tech at a dealer and most of that money goes to the dealership. mechanics definitly do get enough of that money and they deserve a lot more credit than some ppl give them

While i agree that some shops are outragous in pricing, please don't bite the hands of the techs. Most are good guys just like us non-techs, who are just doing their jobs. There are a lot of great guys on here that help out a lot with problems that we all have and they give out info free of charge. Just something to think about.

I agree I am a ford tech we don't make all the money the dealer makes the bulk of it. I also have a 6.0 yes they have some problems but what truck don't? If you don't like paying the dealer pay a tech to do it on the side or do it yourself. Good luck with your truck. Some 6.4 guys pay up to 35 hours for head gaskets

I think you are all missing my point. The dealer has a fair price, the specialist is outrageous, and the one man show people aren't interested. So if you own your own shop you can turn business away. That's not how I was raised.

Delevan Ford is very reasonable. Thats really cheap for what you are getting actually
