Which tow tune is best?
So im going to be taking the trailor this week and will be traveling about 200 miles each way. I will be encountering a lot of hills and i am wondering which of the tow tunes that i have will be best to use. I currently have tow tunes from DJ, Eric and Matt. My trailor weighs about 8500 pounds. You would think that i would know which tune is going to stay the coolest but i havent pulled with Matts or DJs yet and i dont want to experiment on the drive. Just wanted someones input that has Matts Tow Pig or DJs tow.I dont know what theyre rated at. Any input would be appreciated

I pulled with matts 2 weeks ago and it worked very well for me. I only had prolly 3-4k behind me but temps stayed in the 700's most of the ride. I put the skinny on the floor one time gettin on the e-way and maybe touched 1000 but nothin to worry about. I dont know if its matts tune or my PHP ficm but my tow haul seemes very aggressive when down shifting, i like it. you can control it almost like a manual, give the brake a good stab and a second later it down shifts.

ive been using erics pulling a 15k 5er works great good shift points and well placed power. have to tell you i use water injection pullin that weight but ill hover in the 1100 range on a good hill. just did a two week trip starting in phoenix to flagstaff and then to san diago back to phoenix, and not an issue.

I think that i will just stick with erics tune for this trip. It is the only one that i am familiar pulling with and it seemed to have done a good job the last trip. Especially for some of the grades that i was pullin over. I just wasn't sure if anyone was familiar with DJ's tow or Matts tow pig file, and how cool they seemed to run. I guess the only way to find out is to test em out. Thanks for the input

I have used Matt's Tow Pig towing my 10k toyhauler up Tehachapi grade. It pulled very nice with just a touch of extra power over stock. The EGT's stayed well below 1000° unless there was a serious climb. However, I did notice my tranny temps got over 200° for a short period.

I pulled 14k lb enclosed gooseneck 2k miles last week with a custom made 100hp tow file from cale.... Trip was through south dakota and wyoming... Temps never seen over 1050F and the trans ran about 150F the whole trip... The turbo brake is a great addition as well... Highly recomend a tow file from cale
