Recommendations?
Just picked up an 06 with 57,000 miles yesterday and wanted to get some recommendations.
Current mods: Cat and muffler cut off 6" lift with 35's (Rear Axle is 3:73). I live in California so idk if im limited on mods? The truck doesnt get smogged though so I guess its a matter of getting pulled over or something? Was thinking about doing EGR delete then tuner? |

an sct with custom tunes, head studs if you can afford them and a sneaky pipe for your egr delete since your in california. and get a set of gauges for sure. egts boost and tranny temp if you pull a lot. if not id get a fuel pressure instead of a tranny temp.

I would get a Fuel pressure instead of the boost gauge since there is one in the dash. Transmission temp is very important even if you are not towing.

How much should I be looking to spend on the EGR and headstuds? My mother works at a ford dealership so I get her cost on the hourly rate...

Don't fool yourself about California. They ARE going to be performing visuals and smoke test. And any restriction or the lack of flow to the EGR is going to give you a CEL. I would do the SCT with custom tunes. Studding will cost you around $2500 to have done at a dealership. You're going to have to keep your EGR, so a Bullet Proof EGR kit will work nicely. You might want to find another CAT to reinstall for visual inspection.

Oh BTW....
I personally like the Edge Insight for monitoring the truck's vitals. Much cleaner than a row of pods on your pillar. |

I thought there was no smog for diesels in California? Cant the tuner just turn off the EGR so I dont have to remove it but I also dont have to worry about it breaking down? 2500 for studding? hmmm...i have to go in and ask the tech next time I have time.

Can you post a link? I had no idea....one of the reasons I bought the diesel was so I could modify it without worry...wtf.
I bought it without the cat on it or muffler so it should be the previous owners responsibility to give me the cat or pay for it atleast... |
