What Turbo Is This? W/Pics
Hi guys, I was hoping that some of you very knowledgeable posters could help me out here. My turbo on my 2005 F350 is on it's way out so I found a deal at a fairly local Performance shop who sells 6.0 engines etc... They told me that this was a 2005 test turbo (which would explain the white reflective paint on one of the blades) and didn't have much time on it. When I got it, I thought that this looked more like a 2003(because of the ten blades) and if this works, I am super happy because Ideally I wanted the awesome sound. One thing that I am not sure of is....will this turbo work on my truck? I typed in a search of the part number and found nothing. It looks pretty much adentical to regular 6.0 turbo except that wire coming out of it. Could that have been something just for diagnostics for the tests? I may just install it and find out but I would prefer not wasting 7 hours putting turbo's in and out.
The part # is 1837984X91 Last edited by Gforce33; 01-30-2010 at 07:08 AM. |

The turbo is off a 03 6.0L, the turbo pedestal(mount from turbo to block) is different from 03 to 05. So this would not be a direct bolt in

Thanks for the reply! Which is awesome. I know that some people will use the 05 pedistal with the front two bolts and relay on the up pipe for a little stability as well. I have a solid up pipe, so this should be ok. But....what is that wire with a clip end on it for?

Looks like a temp sensor, our trucks don't use it.

So it should still work fine without it plugged in then I hope?
I am pretty excited about this. I ordered this turbo and then bought a 03 turbo on Kijiji(which I really wanted). But when I showed the 03 to my mechanic he told me that he wouldn't put it in because there was too much free play and there was some oil on the exhaust side....so I was bummed. Then this one came in via Fed Ex and it turns out to be a 03 in awesome shape so I am so stoked. Can't wait to get it in....thanks guys! |

There's plenty of '03 turbo videos out there, do a quick search on youtube.
