Exhuast.. the exhausted subject

I know it's been up many times. But i have some quick pre-purchase questions.

1: Is stainless needed?

2: Difference between stainless and aluminized? All i can guess is rust or no rust. But maybe there is more.

3: Who makes the best 5" system... full 5" (if there is one)

I of course looked at all the main names. But I found Banks is always good, alot of people like it. MBRP makes a 5" system if memory serves me. Rolling Big Power is another name I like.

Any ideas are much appreciated.

Hey Nate,
I went with the MBRP 4" Turbo Back and am happy with it. You're correct on the rust no rust thing and I'm in a place I don't have salt on the roads, etc. so I didn't go with stainless. I'm not sure about the other manufacturers - I went with MBRP because I got a good price. I kinda figured a hollow pipes a hollow pipe but again I don't have the rust problem here.

I just ordered the Magnaflow today, I'm installing it next Wed. I have to agree, a hollow 4" pipe, is a hollow 4" pipe. I did inquire about the Banks exhaust, the guy at the shop said the fit and finish was a little better on the Banks, hangers clamps etc. but in his opinion the extra $$$ was not worth it. I thought Banks was doing EGT bungs on their systems, but this guy said the ones they had been getting lately did not have one, so either way I am welding a bung on the system prior to install, I'll be catching up on the gauges in a few weeks.

Wrong place as in the exhuast is the wrong place? Or it was located incorrectly on the exhaust systtem itself?

a lot of people feel that you can not safely monitor the egt's after the turbo....you need to do it on the inlet pipes that run into the turbo from the exaust manifolds.....but as long as you figure 2-300 degrees of temp drop after the turbo....then you can measure EGT's there.....if you get 475 after the turbo....then your temp going in is approx 675-775.....its not an exact science and as long as you know what your EGT's should be wherever your probe is youll be fine......Marc

wrong place as in there is essentially 2 exhaust systems on your truck....one to get the exhaust to your turbo to spin the vaines.....and one that comes out of the turbo to get it out of the truck.........

the BEST place to put the sensor is in the exhaust that goes into the turbo......somewhere between the exhaust manifolds and the turbo.........

you CAN put it in the exhaust your putting on....you just have to figure that there is a temp drop through the turbo.......so really they are saying it was located incorrectly on the exhaust system itself if........Marc

if you want the correct temp, which is why you have a gauge, the only correct install is the manifold.its very easy to get to and drill and tap.its below the drivers side, the manifold makes a slight drop and runs upto the turbo .at the drop is the best place.some will even monitor both sides to keep a eye on injectors.after turbo is to late.
