2006 PSD Detuned?

Granted, this is not conclusive proof but it's a good indication that something is up.

I was checking out the Superchips webpage looking for data on the new Flashpaq programmer for the 6.0 PSD. First thing I noticed was that they have two separate and distinct models for the 2003-2005 and the 2006. The dyno plots they show clearly indicate that the 2006 model year is down on power by around 50HP and 65FTLBS in comparison to the 2003-2005 PSD dyno's (stock comparisons). The tuned performance numbers are also down for the 2006.

I was not aware of any powertrain changes for the 2006 model year. Had I known, I most certainly would have held off on my purchase. I do recall hearing that the 2006 was now emmissions legal in all 50 states though. Perhaps, they detuned for EPA reasons. I'm not too happy about this. It appears that Ford may have some explaining to do

they can say dyno wise whatever they want....but if you have driven all the trucks (03-06) consistantly....the 05's and 06's both are considerably stronger feeling in my "butt dyno" than the others......i would have a hard time beliving that the 06 is any more de tuned than any other motor from prior years......and to topp that off all 6.0's are extrememly de tuned just to save headgasket failures.......Marc

It just doesn't make sense. Ford, GM and Dodge are all trying to sell owners on hp and tq numbers along with the engine itself and the truck surrounding it. It would be foolish of any automaker to detune an engine that much and still try to pass it off as the same engine from the previous year. I'm not saying it isn't so, but i'm saying it isn't likely.

Aren't all diesel detuned??? I remember... back in the day, farmers saying they would take their Int's and Freightliners in to get them turned up.....

Besides, they have to allow all the after market companies to make some money, right????

Well yes they're all detuned, but he's saying that the 06 is detuned for less power than the 05 which makes little sense...

detuned

the automakers lowerd the hp rating back in the 60s with the muscle cars, so people could afford the insurance. even though they were putting out more hp than they were rated for the insurance companies bought it.

i agree mark, i've driven 04s 05s and 06s and the most recent two years "feel" like they have considerably more muscle than the earlier 6.0s

My sister thinks they detuned them too. She has an 04 EX that will outrun her 06 King Ranch. The Ex is alot heavier than the 250 and runs like a scalded dog compared to her 250.

an 05 excursion will out run an 03 excursion though......the excursions have different PCM programming and since they do.....its not right to compare them to the F series......hook a 10k trailor to that excursion and see how it stacks up......
