I have a 05 King Ranch F250 with roughly 120k miles. I currently have a 4" turbo back MBRP exhaust and thats it. The truck has not been bullet proofed and neither has a rough life no excessive heavy towing etc. I was wanting to see if there is any options maybe to bolt on to give the engine a little more pep. I'm not looking to drag race people or tow heavy equipment just wanted to see if there is any options without having to bullet proof. Truck runs great but wanted to see if there is anything more I can do.
Yup, a programmer. Do you have any way to monitor the vitals on the truck? They do write "headbolt safe" tunes. However, it all comes down to your driving habits and the overall heath of the truck when it comes to tuning.
The key to keeping a 6.0 going is proper maintinence with the proper ford recomended fluids, and bulletproofing means using bulletproof diesels parts when upgrading a 6.0, which yes do cost alot more than other options but people feel its worth it with their warranty and reliability, and when you get a programmer or tuner php (power hungry performance) or gearheads are great tune writers and if you ever get custome tuning many people can vouch for them

Well...you gotta tread a little light on this one. Bullet proofing does not necessarily mean using only BPD products. I use them and am glad I do. The one thing that I am quite sure of is that head gaskets and studs are, in my mind are a "when" and not an "if" situation. Just be mindful of egr cooler and oil cooler condition and be careful, my truck wound up needing HG's after the BPD EGR and OC. Only ran non studded compatible tunes. It is a roll of the dice IMHO. Just be prepared to do the job. I will say that I do tow heavy.
Well a true bulletproof is more than the headstuds and egr delete that people think it is its the water pump oil cooler and ficm also, but i was clearing up were the true term bullet proofed 6.0 came from, not that you need to use them to make a stout 6.0, theres just more reliability and a good warranty from bulletproof parts under the hood when you have a good truck to start with and proper installation
I agree if you dont want your truck to do just about every infamous thing 6.0s do, use the cat or equivalent coolant and atleast shell t4, equivalent, or better i use arch oil with t4 for my oil changes and i would recommend a updated fuel pressure blue spring kit as one of the cheapest investments to save your truck due to a underrated factory spring if the injectors dont have 40+ psi minimum at WOT sooner or later they will self destruct
