Question Cool Air Intake or Intake Manifold

I've gotta 2006 F250, which other than the 4" MBRP exhaust I just bought last week, remains completely stock. My next upgrade is going to be to increase the air coming into the motor so I'm planning on getting a Banks ram air intake & an intake manifold. Both are around $399 & I don't feel like buying them at the same time. Which should I buy first, & which can I expect to see a bigger gain (either HP &/or mpg) out of? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks guys.:

i have both the ram air intake and high ram intake, they did pretty much nothing for me..the stock air filter that you have will flow up to 500 to 550 HP..if you willing to spend 399 on something you might as well get gauges than save up for a SCT with custom tunes.

^^^ I agree, I even put my stock air box back on. Gauges and SCT should be next on the list.

I've heard a lot of people on this forum recommend the SCT programmer however all the product reviews I read are negative, and say that it creates a jolt in your transmission when cruise control is used. Any input on this? What about the Edge Evolution, is that any good? I want to gain some HP & MPG but I'm not looking to get something that's going to jolt & tear my truck apart.

SCT with custom tunes is the only way to go. If you have a tune that locks the Torque Converter you will def feel a jolt when coming off of cruise, etc. That is generally only race tunes. My Extreme Street tune from Eric at Innovative has perfectly smooth tranny shifts. SCT with custom tunes are the only way to properly tune a 6.0 as the tuners (ID, Elite, RCD, Cale, etc) can tune the tranny properly.

BTW, not sure who is writing those product reviews. prob magazines who get a lot of advertising $$$ from Edge, Banks, etc

its the best tuner you can get for the 6.0..THE BEST..get custom tunes and it will actually be beneficial for your transmission..edge is so hard on yoru transmission..SCT actually tunes your motor AND your transmission.no other tuner out there does that. the product reviews might not be great, but id say 75% of people on this forum are using an SCT with custom tunes and absolutly LOVE It..

Gotcha. OK thanks for the info guys. You're both a big help as I don't know much of anything regarding the mechanics of these products. I'll look into the SCT. Thanks again.

no worries, use this forum all you can, it is how the majority of people on here have learned a great portion of what they know. If not for this forum I would have shelled out a ton of money on that Banks Big Hoss bundle and be hating life today.

I was at the drag strip a few weeks ago and a guy with the same truck as mine came up and asked me what tuner I was using. He had the whole banks setup and was a whole second slower than my SCT. I run the ID Xtreme Street

Don't waste your money on CAI or intake runners. Do a little research and you will find that most of the OG members and those who know a butt load of information about these diesel all say don't waste your money. The stock filter and intake set up will handle up to 500 ponnies.
