Sct questions
Im new to this and want more info after buying a superchips cortex.
What do you mean by building a strategy? Can i run an extreme street on stock studs? How much are tunes and where to buy the tuner? Is this pretty easy to load and use them from the vendor to my truck? Thanks for any info? |

As far as I know you can't load any custom tunes on the cortex, I would sell it. Every truck has a strategy. I ran extreme street on stock studs and stretched my head bolts...tiwce. But alot of people do it just fine, delete the egr and that should help, mine wasn't when I stretched my bolts. Elite, Innovative, river city and probably more I just cant think of all sell the tuners. They all have custom tunes as well to choose from. Extremely easy to load onto your truck. The tuner is preloaded with your custom tunes, plug it in the diagnostic port and just follow the instructions on the tuner.

never heard of anyone loading up custom tunes on the Cortex.... you will need an SCT for that... as far as running the extreme tunes.. i would say 95% of people running an extreme tune run them on stock studs... but... you need to keep an eye on your gauges to be safe......
as far as how easy it is... its not terribly hard... this is how it works you buy the SCT and it gets sent to you blank once you have it plug it into your OBD 2 port and go into the diagnostic settings... from there you can grab your trucks strategy (pcm code).. once you have that email it to the custom tuner you bought it from like Eric at innovative diesel.. once he has your tunes made he will email them back to you meanwhile you should be loading up the software from the SCT website and updating your tuner if need be.. once you get your tunes plug in your X3 to your computer via a USB cable and load them up with the software... after that you just load it up to your truck like any other tuner... this is what i recommend: SCT X3 Custom Innovative Diesel Tunning you need to be running gauges with any tuner... if you have any questions please feel free to ask -Raul |

raul is exactly right. i prefer analog gauges but digital ones are also avalible. if you plan to run tunes on the truck no matter what tunner or if you plan to tow even stock towing you need gauges. if not expect problems. drive responsibly and the stock studs should be good. i prefer the isspro gauges and running a sct tuner like the xcal 3

Thank you for the responses! I do plan on trashing the cortex. it's was ok for power but it shifted weird at times and bugged me! So overall it seems pretty easy! I do want gauges, and plan on it! I'M ADDICTED THE 6.0 power! Lol! On an egr delete, as told from ford they said blocking the egr would cause more problems in the long run. Is this true? And street legal to so I don't have to worry about emissions or anything?

This is my question too. When you purchase a SCT through Innovative Diesel are the custom tunes included for that price or are they above and beyond?
