battery dead after re-tuning w/ sct

wondering if anyone else has this problem..it didnt happen when i first got the tuner (sct x3) whenever i try to download the tune to the truck the batteries are dead right after it downloads..and there is a loud noise coming from the front right of the engine bay..its a cylinder type thing that makes a humming noise..is this normal (the humming noise)?

and as far as the batteries going dead, do i just need to get new ones? is that the only problem?

and should i get custom tunes? are they better for yoru truck than the canned tunes?
