sct and codes

will my sct clear a tranny code even though it appears to not even read them?

No. Most of your tuner/code scanners will only read generic DTCs(most of the time it relates somehow to emissions). It will not show manufacture specific codes for enhanced powertrain, GEM, ABS, TBC, TCM or the other 4 computer modules that I can't remember that have their own DTCs for them.

In order to read and clear those codes you'll need to get something along the lines of AutoEnginuity(I use and would highly suggest this software, pays for itself with just about 3-4 code readings depending on what your local dealerships charges for that service, I've heard anywhere from 100 to 175 per computer hookup). You will need to get the Ford Enhancement license in order for it to work for diesels period as our model years are not OBD-II complaint. However, that license is well worth it compared to what you can do with the software. Highly suggest it, especially if you like to do work yourself.

dont buy one..go to your local orielys and theyll let u borrow it all day long free of charge and it works flawlessly

Those are no better then the ones at autozone, they do not pick up manufacture specific codes. You're going to need a professional scan tool for that. The ones at autozone and the like are just generic scan tools, nothing more.
