That range isn't bad, maybe 210 if you were just dogging the hell out of it with the stock tune(now if it was the race tune that I wouldn't be surprised to see 215 just dogging it), but 230 is excessively high and if you get that with your stock tune then something else is going on, maybe the sensor isn't quite right or there is just something else going on.

Right now i have the xtreme street tune on there. Im gonna load up the stock tune before i go to work and see how hot that runs. When it reached 230 it was in city driving. lot of stop and go and i know the truck hates that. on the highway it was 195~210.

I have never experienced(as of this typing) fluctuations with stop and go traffic versus highway. Now maybe the 4.30 gears help with that, I don't know, but I haven't noticed any difference in temps from between those two scenarios and I will say this, I am very "anal" when it comes to monitoring gauges on my truck, perhaps a little too much.

tex, was your testing done with your larger sticks? My post was pertaining to a stock injectored truck.

205* is not hot, when you get into the 235^ is when they are considered hot, or when you hear the fan come on..

I have done it for both, which is good so that way I can see what all changed when I went with bigger injectors and then with a bigger turbo.

Well you can have the fan come on at 225 depending on a few variables other then just ECT. I do agree with your temperature assessment on ECT, however, coolant does start to lose it's ability to cool as effectively when it gets 225-230, I don't know if the gold coolant has higher tolerances or not, but that's for the average coolant.

I don't remember what my temps are, but i run a xtreme tune 24/7... hot, cold, towing, driving, whatever. I've never had a problem.

Thing is, trouble doesn't necessarily happen after the first time or even quite a few times down the line, but I wouldn't suggest an extreme tune(or like tune) for towing if it's of significant weight(or depending on type of cargo), but that's just me.

it also makes a difference where you take you temperature reading from and if you are using analog or digital gauges

Actually it doesn't. I get my info from both. I have 7 analog gauges and the DashDAQ and the biggest difference between the two is 5 degrees on the TFT and the DashDAQ actually reads hotter(which I would rather then colder). ECT and EOT are actually spot on between the two.
