Looking to buy a used X 6.0

I'm in the early stages of looking for a used excursion 6.0. Is there anything I should look out for?

In an ideal world I want an 2005 with low miles (under 50K), unmodified, with quad captain chairs.

This will be my first diesel, so any suggestions/comments are welcome.

Thanks for any input you might have.

Erik

First of all, Welcome to the Forum!

The later model 6.0's are good engines, and most of the earlier ones are also. Do your homework, get a Carfax and an Oasis report befor you make your mind up. Also check out some of the threads here on the 6.0's. These should help you make an informed decision.

If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask!

Thanks for the quick replies. This forum is incredible. More info than I can process! There seems to be a ton of knowledge here.

I like this one on ebay: eBay Motors: Ford : Excursion (item 270076079768 end time Jan-11-07 11:06:54 PST)

I'll probably have to ask for an oasis report from someone here, because the seller is not a Ford dealer.

I'd love to fly down to Texas and have a nice long roadtrip back to Vermont, but it would probably just as cheap to have it shipped.

Now I just have to convince the wife to sell her car . . .

900 miles to look at repaint

Was looking to buy Excursion 05 low mileage. Drove from Florida to Tenn. to look at 05 with 36,000mi. Had trade in and deal worked out before left house. Checked front end was repainted. That is why I think all those companies like Car Fax are a joke. There was no report of accident to cause repaint. If you take it to a local body shop or you repair yourself how are those companies who charge for history report to know. I find you most inspect yourself carefully. I learned never to travel to far to look at one vehicle. If it is not want you thought you spent all that money and time. Only if you have no choice. Be careful of lease comebacks. Those 2 and 3 year leases are coming back. Found some that were beat up. I finally, found one in Apopka Fl. 2004 25,000mi through internet at Ford Dealer. Luckly it was the first one I saw that had 4 bucket seats and was pristine. Bought on the spot. Take your time. I find some dealers telling me how hard they are to come by. They are becoming very popular. There out there, take time and you'll find one.

I've had my '04 EB for almost two years and love it. My wife wanted quads, and I wanted rear bench. I have the bench. She got the quads in her Navigator. Having both, I like the bench much better. We have one child, so anytime we take another couple we have five passengers, which is not a problem in the EX, but in the NAV someone has to climb into the third seat.

Captains chairs! Yucko, had em hate em, they don't allow one to stretch out or..... I pull over often and like to stretch out in the cab and close my eyes on long trips and captains chair get in the way cause of that awful console they stick between them.
Good luck

I just want to say be patient. I was looking for months. Now I got EXTREMELY lucky. I'm now 3 days into owning my '05 Ex. It's black ltd with quad captains, oh and I found it with 6700miles on it. I was actually on my way to purchase an '04 with more miles on it and happened to drive by this one.
Sometimes it's better to be lucky than good.
