Question 05 Ex 6.0 Purchasing Advice

Hi All,

I'm new here to the forum and diesel engines in general. I'm looking to purchase an 05 EX with the 6.0. Any feedback to the questions I have would be greatly appreciated.

1) After receiving an Oasis report, should I shy away from a vehicle that has had the 3 major recalls done? Or should I welcome that knowing the problems have surfaced and been addressed already?

2) I've also been told to avoid any 6.0 produced for the state of CA (I live in OR.)- due to emission reasons. I was told there are specific changes to the exhaust, etc that decrease power and make it impossible for after market mods (exhaust, chip, etc.) Additionally I guess the parts are more expensive and take several days to reach OR. thus lengthening the time required for repairs. Is that true or a myth?

ANY OTHER ADVICE ON WHAT TOO LOOK FOR DURING MY HUNT - PLEASE SEND MY WAY.

Thanks,

WINR

Exucrison

I just bought a 04 Excursion 6.0 and it had a decent OASIS with one turbo replacement at 11,000 miles. No other problems. Then the check engine light came on a few days after I bought it and it needed a new turbo. It probably comes down to a decent pre-purchase inspection. I got a great "deal" on mine, but it came with a few problems.

If I had to do over again, I would still have bought the vehicle, but I would have immediately taken it to a Ford dealer for a comprehensive safety check to identify problems.

I'm not sure about the CA exhaust... Diesel's in CA don't have annual smog requirements, and all the after market parts manufactures all sell stuff for the 05, so I wouldn't worry about it.

Get the 4x4 ;-)

Thanks for the tips. I'm looking at a 05 EB 4x4 this weekend. Asking $24,900 with 47k miles. It has 19 months of warranty remaining and was used mainly as a soccer mom vehicle.
