800+ miles to a tank
I have had my 04 Excursion for a year now and just finally took a trip with it. This was the first time I have every made to 800 mile on a tank. i had filled up before I left and just crossed over to 800 mile and still have 120 left on the miles to empty gauge. I know I will not get another 120 mile out of the tank, but still 800+ miles on a single tank you have got to love, now putting 44 gallon back in the tank will take this happiness away.

that was miles from the tripometer and my gps unit, so my miles traveled is right, I have not filled up yet, kind of avoiding it for some reason. I had reset the mpg meter at the start of the trip, it says 19.2 right now, I will hand calculate when I finally fill up. Oh and this was the first complete tank for innovative's aggressive street tune as well, so a big thanks to Innovative!! |

ok here are my hand calculated totals for when I filled up last night 826.6 miles 43.46 gallons = 19.01 MPG same pump I used before the trip and I filled her up until it was ready to over flow again, it takes for ever! oh and I set the cruise at 70 when I could but rt50 from the bay bridge in MD to ocean city MD has light and stopa and go traffic, so I averaged just under 65. rpm 's at 70 are just under 2k usually |

Hey all, Newbie to Power Strokes and diesels. I just bought an 04 Excursion 4WD and am wondering what the best combination of Tuners/intakes/airflow mods to get the best MPG and performance. I read the thread from pgaigh and am very impressed with his MPG. Does anyone use the Bully Dog products? Thanks for all the info so far!

first welcome and sweet Ex!
I looked and read for a while before I finally followed everyones advice and got and SCT X3 and custume tunes for it from Innovative Diesel. I still have the stock intake with just hte Zoodad mod (hole cut behind the grill to allow air to flow into the intake) and a 4" banks exhaust. the biggest thing for my MPG's was learning to control my right foot. and not laying into that skinny peddle all the time. On average my daily commute is abotu 40 mile each way and about a 65/35 slipt between highway and city and i average about 17. the 800 trip was almost all highway, but there stop lights along Rt50 but not much traffic. feel free to pm me if you have any questions |
