Stock air filter vs. K&N filter
Have 6.0 04 Excursion. Just changed exhaust from the down pipe back with 4" exhaust, flow through muffler and got rid of Kitty. Noticed immediatley 3 more mpg. Have a super chip on performannce mode. Was thinking of switching to SCT but wonder after spending money on super chip would be worth spending another $450? Happy with super chip and shifts smoothly.
Removed stock air cleaner and installed K&N air filter. Was told to remove K&N filter and replace stock one. Then remove grille and cut out hole for air filter to get more fresh air. Then replace grill. I was told that these exposed cold air filters with the insulating blanket between filter and hot engine still defeats the purpose when you close the hood and hot air stays caputured under the hood. Makes sense to replace stock filter box and cut hole for air to come through to filter box. Has anyone done this. |

I will get slammed on this comment but here goes, the K&N CAI and filter is not bad. The one to be concerned with are the "drop in" replacement filters. As it will allow dirt and dust to pass around the gasket. I use the Airaid brand and have modified it with a plexiglass cover on the box under the hood and did the Zoodad mod. works great. Now with all that said, your stock box is good enough except for the ease of changing the filter and cost of the filter. |

K&N
i have a K&N intake system and the Zoodad mod works great i have had no problems...I check the filter and take off the intake tube to check the turbo for dust or dirt and have not seen any at all... Only thing that sucks ..dealer will not warranty truck with aftermarket intake... but pretty simple swap....
