03 6.0 a/c noise

Anyone know what noise might b ?? When I am sitting at a light with ac on no noise but as soon as I take off engine compartment makes a weird whining growling noise till I hit about 35-40 mph then it goes away !!! Only when air is on ??? Its driving me insane !!

Sounds like a compressor...maybe. It's odd that it goes away. Try sitting still and reving the engine, say at a steady 1800 rpm and see if it goes away. It may be a time thing rather than a speed thing.
