Accelerator Pedal Issue?

Hey guys. My 04 Excursion with a 6.0 has what I believe may be an accelerator pedal sensor issue. Lately I've been noticing that when I press the pedal down I'm getting a dead spot before it catches and accelerates. While it is doing this I'm getting gray smoke out the exhaust. Unfortunately I have the adjustable pedals. So before I plunk down $450 for a new one I wanted to run it past you guys to try and determine if this is my only issue. I read several posts from people with this issue but I have not seen any describing the smoke. Other than this issue it runs great. It's also stock, no mods, Motorcraft filters, Synthetic oil, Driven easy every day. No Check engine light either. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
