Bunch of Newbie questions

Aloha, yes I live in Hawaii. I've just bought a 2005 Excursion 4x4, 6.0, with 75K and is bone stock. I know NOTHING about diesels except they have tons of torque. This is gonna be our family vehicle so the mods want can not be anything real crazy. I'd like some input what mods work as well as combinations that ae proven. What I'm looking for: Exhaust, Intake, 6" lift, 35x12.50 tires that will not stick out of the stock fenders more than 1", Electronics (I was gonna put an Edge in it but I see a bunch of blogs on "chips DP or TW") Pro Cons. I plan on installing a ram air hood so that may play a factor on the intake I choose. I little about myself, I'm a fortyyear that used to race Mustangs back in the early 90's, my wife has a heavier foot than I do, we live on a rock and regularly go from sea level to 2500'. I know this is a broad post but hey I want to do it RIGHT the FIRST TIME so any help will be appreciated.

Hi You may want to post in the 6.0l area not the 7.3l area. Also just look around and you will find many of your answers

I moved it for ya! Your stock air filter will flow just fine up to about 450HP, but if you want, a number of guys are running the AFE Proguard 7. For exhaust, you should hit up Gus @ Farmboys Diesel and ask about his budget exhaust kit or an MBRP, both of which are available in aluminized or stainless. You'll probably want 4" turbo back, since 5" is a bit of overkill for the mods you are planning to do. As far as tuners go, contact Innovative or DJ's diesel for their custom tuned SCT Xcal3 or LiveWire. The LiveWire has some built in digital gauges, but have a few issues, so you may be better off with the Xcal3 and analog gauges or you might try the DashDAQ, also from Innovative. As far as the lift and tires are concerned, I would point you to Raul@Stealth Automotive who can help you select the right combination for your rig. He's also a reseller for Innovative's tunes and can hook you up with gauges as well. That's a lot, but holler if you still have questions.

I would have to agree with Evil Eye!

Keep the stock intake (for now anyway), FBD turbo back 4" exh., and SCT, SCT, SCT, SCT, with custom tunes(don't forget gauges). This is the same route that I'm headed with my 6.0 F-250 , (currently pending fundage $$$ )

Thanx for moving my post, I'm still trying to figure this site out. It's also good to get some feedback regarding the stock air filter, if I don't need it don't buy it (for now) lol lol. Thanks everyone keep your opinions coming. Mahalo

Yeah, your stock filter will flow plenty of air. I'd make that one of your later mods. Get the exhaust, gauges and tuner (SCT) first.

You can do the zoodad though, it's free, and it can't hurt!
Here's a link to a good write up - My Zoodad install with pics
