Which Amsoil products to use
I recently purchased a 2004 Excursion 6.0 and plan to switch all the lubricants over to Amsoil since I'm a distributor (so that I get the cheaper price, not because I know so much about the products
) I live in North Carolina so temps are 10-95 generally speaking and I won't be towing more than 7000lbs maybe 2 times a month in the summer. There are options for each fluid and I don't know which one to get so I hope someone here will point me in the right direction. It lists 3 different engine oils for my vehicle: SAE 15W-40 Synthetic Heavy Duty Diesel and Marine Motor Oil (AMEQT) Synthetic 15W-40 Diesel Oil (DMEQT) Synthetic 15W40 OE Diesel Oil (OEDQT) For my transmission it lists 2 choices: Synthetic Multi-Vehicle Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATFQT) Torque-Drive Synthetic Transmission Fluid (ATD1G) Rear diff: SEVERE GEAR 75W-140 Synthetic EP Lubricant (SVOQT) 80W-140 Synthetic Long Life Gear Lube (FGO05) Front diff: SEVERE GEAR 75W-90 Synthetic EP Lubricant (SVGQT) 75W-90 Synthetic Long Life Gear Lube (FGRQT) SEVERE GEAR 75W-110 Synthetic EP Lubricant (SVTQT) SAE 80W-90 Synthetic Gear Lube (AGLQT) Transfer case: Synthetic Multi-Vehicle Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATFQT) Torque-Drive Synthetic Transmission Fluid (ATD1G) Also, I read somewhere on here some discussion on oil filters. Do you recommend one of the various Amsoil filters or a different brand? Same question on fuel filters. And how about the Amsoil coolant or a different brand? Some of this may have been covered elsewhere. I looked for a sticky on it but didn't see one but if you have links to other posts that answer these questions, feel free to post a link. If you don't recommend switching some of these fluids to Amsoil, please let me know that also. I had an '06 Duramax but this is my first powerstroke and I know it has to be well maintained so I'm trying to do it right. |

I just changed my oil the other day. Mine is a 7.3, but it should still apply. I bought my oil from someone who is supposed to know everything about Amsoil products. He sold me the 15W-40 Heavy Duty Diesel and Marine oil. I got the diff oil from someone who sold their truck and had it sitting around. It was bought from the same guy. It's labeled Heavy Duty 75W-140 (rear) and 75W-90 (front). I would guess it's the same as the Severe Gear. This stuff is at least 6 years old. For the trans and transfer case, I'm not sure. I haven't got that far into changing my oils. Oil filter, I'm not sure about. For the 7.3, the Amsoil oil filter was better than the Motorcraft one. It was also 3x the cost. Coolant, go with a CAT rated ELC. I believe it's the red one. You can get it at just about any big truck dealer or shop.
