How long does the Transmission last on the EX.

Hi guys,

I am looking into buying a diesel excursion, looks like it going to be 6.0L so it's going to be 03 and newer. I have a few questions about the Excursion, and have read about the 6.0L and 7.3L engine. Most of the 7.3L for sale within 250 miles of my house want the same amount on money as the 6.0L.

I like to do all the preventive maintenance so I don't have to worry about the thing broken down while towing/going somewhere far from home

So far, I have not read anything much about the general reliability of the transmission and other component on the Excursion. Usually/on an average,
- At what mileadge does the ex need a rebuild/reman transmission
- Ball joint
- Shock/Spring
- Alternator
- Starter
Anythingelse I miss?

Thanks

- At what mileadge does the ex need a rebuild/reman transmission - STOUT
- Ball joint - 100,000
- Shock/Spring - 126,000
- Alternator - 116,000

I have an 04 X with the 5 speed. I am not sure if the 03 had the 5 speed or 4 speed transmission? I have had no transmission problems and have read alot about how stout these are. I also tow regularly and use tow/haul whenever I tow. Other mods are in my sig, pretty standard mods that make a truck very reliable.

Thanks Heathrm,

Understand about replacing spring, but replacing the leafspring too? How difficult is this job? I am planning to do this myself

Sorry for the confusion, just replaced the shocks. I intend on doing the leaf springs at some point down the road. Planning the V/B spring swap eventually.
