Ignorant Question

I will freely admit this is a dumb question BUT what the heck do we call the thing some people refer to as the "Lie-Ometer"? You know, the mileage and compass display that is mounted on the ceiling, right next to the mounting point of the interior rear-view mirror? I am having intermittant issues with that display and would like to fix it. Thanks for your help. Not so much for the insults but I have already admitted this is ignorant so what should I expect?

i dont no what there called but i know a place on ebay fixes them sent my uncles in they re soder or something i think it was like $25-30 with shipping

It's called several things - overhead console, overhead computer or overhead display.
