First off, filters. The general opinion among most seasoned guys is don't use anything but Motorcraft or Racor (they make Motorcraft) filters for oil or transmission. You can get them here:
Home - Diesel Filters,Additives, brake rotors, and brake pads for Chevy, Dodge and Ford Diesel Trucks

As for fluids: on oil, many people are recommending the Rotella T-6 5w40 synthetic. It runs about 20 bucks a gallon at Wal-MArt. You will need to pick up 4 gallons, takes 15 qts more or less. On Transmission Motorcraft SP.

If you cannot get any Mercon SP you can use Mercon LV, the SP was supposed to be phased out and only the LV would be produced. Both are high quality synthetic fluids, just remember to flush the system every 30k.

Ford does also recommend 10w-30 in moderate climates and 0w-30 in cold climates. There is a thread here with a used oil analysis of rotella T-5 10w-30 doing a great job in a 6.0.
