Question 04 Excursion transmission troubles

I live in the San Diego area and my 2004 Ex is in need of some transmission help. It takes a long time to get it in gear,it's the 5 speed auto. I am told the pressures are bad. Everyone wants to put a $3000 new unit in it. I am on disability and cannot afford that kind of money. Anyone know a cheaper but still dependable answer to my problem?

Hello, please allow me to share my experience, I had a similar problem on my 2003/6.0 Excursion, the primary symptom was that the truck was taking very very long to shift gears, I was recommended a similar fix. However, I decided to change the oil and filter with the OEM parts, and the problem went away completely.

I'm not saying this will fix yours, and maybe I'm way out of range but is a inexpensive test

Thanks for the suggestion. But its a the pressure in the bands. They want $3000 for a new tranny. So I am going to drive this one as long as I can.
