Need Help, looking at purchasing 04 Ford Excursion

I am new to diesel and I am going to be looking at an 04 Excursion 4x4 Diesel today from a private party and looking for things to look for. Carfax and Oasis check out and has been maintained by the dealer and oil changes by the owner. They only used sparingly to haul a 17 ft boat. I am going to be talking to him pretty shortly but wont be able to look at it until early evening, so any information you can provide would be much appreciated. Specs are around 100k miles 6.0l diesel engine and it is a 4x4. thanks. tim

If you checked out the reports and everything looked good, you are probably good. I'd ask if they ever tuned(tuner, programmer....any kind of power adder) it. Tuned 6.0s run great, but break stuff(blow headgaskets, create EGR issues....etc). Other than that, it should be fine. 100k on a diesel is just breakin it in. Good luck with your purchase.

I wish I could have talked my wife in to an Excursion(diesel), I think they are the perfect family vehicle!!!

ask if ball joints and tie-rod ends have been replaced, check for white powdery residue around antifreeze jug.

picked her up, no powdery residue around the antifreeze. I asked if any major components susp etc. been replaced and he said they have not had any issues. Had the turbo clean @ 98k miles, just had the brakes redone, transmission serviced at 75k. Just drove her home from the coast and avg. 19 mpg. it is a bit boaty feeling. not much a car guy, but wont a sway bar tighten that up, and if so, any recommendations. also, i want to leave the stock suspension and height, but possibly switch out the suspension for a more comfortable ride, any recommendations. it is mainly going to be the wifes to haul around the kids.
