overheating ex

does anybody know how to test a fanclutch on the 6.0? or better yet can you hear the fan inside the cab when it comes on? i was climming a hill and the temp gauge was going up i never had it even move before.

Yes, you can hear the fan when it kicks in. It sounds pretty ominous, but works like a charm when engaged. I have never had my temps climb, even when I hear the fan kick in - must be a precautionary measure.

Sorry, but I do not know how to test the fan clutch with getting the engine working hard. Must be a way to trigger a relay. Would be interested in finding out.

There's a ford-specific code you can read that will tell you if the fan clutch is not working and there's also a fan speed sensor. I don't know exactly which readers will pick it up but Autoenginuity will read it. On my 2003 it didn't show a CEL when the fan speed sensor or fan clutch was out.
