If You Took the Engine Out...
and worked on it on a stand, what parts would you go ahead and replace because it is out and easy to get to them? I mean, would you go ahead and install a new water pump? How about glow plugs? I am having the 6.0 taken out of the X to replace the head studs. While it sits there on the stand what else should I throw money at?

Exhaust gaskets, o-rings everywhere, water pump, belt tensioner and idlers, being a 6.0 you probably dont have to replace the oil pan like us guys with the 7.3's just my 2cnts

I thought you could replace head studs with the motor in. but I would i Take the oil pan off and put a good coat of paint on it and check the rear main seal. because almost every thing else can be done with the motor in.

I would check the condition of the rear main seal and the oil pan gasket. Since the motor needs pulled to do these jobs you might as well do them

Right now I am having the head studs replaced and new head gaskets installed, new oil cooler gasket, new water pump installed, Rear Main replaced, drive shaft balanced, new exhaust pipe (aftermarket) to accommodate eventual chipping, EGR Delete, all fluids replaced and A/C Recharge.
I am considering having the Steering Gear Replaced with a factory fresh gear. We have a bad case of wandering X that even the installation of Radius Rods has not entirely fixed. What do you think? Would it make sense to go ahead and replace things like glow plugs and oil pickups or even the entire oil cooler? I NEVER want to pull this engine again and I intend to keep this thing until detroit (or Tokyo) decides to build a big diesel tow-monster that will seat seven adults in comfort and style... again. How about the HPOP
HPOP is easy to do in the motor
HPOP is easy enough to do with it in the truck.

is there an echo

How many miles on the truck? (Might have been there and I missed it).
Heck, if money is NO object and it's out of the truck, and it were mine...my 7.3....Ohh the things I would do!!! Like..... Studs, COMPLETE rebuild top to bottom, Pistons/rods, balance the crank, studs, glow plugs, injectors, girdle .... basically anything and everything....b/c it's just a little easier while it's out. Of course the water pump. Heck even the cam...get a rock awesome one if your gonna build it up. basically everything would be new and performance based. Pull out all the stops. Of course....I've just listed about $60K worth of parts and machining....at least on a 7.3 You can even paint it all like you want it just to make it look good. (That too is what I would do.) |
