dual stablizer installed. but have a important question

got mine installed today (thanks black and gold) but i have a question. how far on the outside of the drag link collar should the brackets go that hold the stabilizer? i put mine about a finger width from it. i have seen some maybe 12+ inches. where is the best place to put them. what does that have to do with steering? here are some pics.

i figured someone would have the same question or a idea? the instructions really didnt say how far.
