Air bags with B&W hitch

My dad has an 03 F-350 with a B&W hitch to pull his 5th wheel. He wants to add air bags on the rear to keep it from sagging less. Several trailer places that sell the air bags have told him they can't install the air bags due to the hitch. And that the bag mounts would have to be welded to the hitch.

So, I know there are a lot of guys out there using these hitches and sure there are more than a few with air bags on their trucks. So my question is, what did you do to install them?

It's a hide-a-ball then we have the 5th wheel companion in the bed.

I have the B&W hide a ball and air bags and I have no issue. I don't have the fifth wheel companion though. I can snap some pics if you want.

Pictures would be great. I didn't see why they would work together.

The Companion would not make a difference on whether you could use airbags or not. It is simply the hitch.......the interference comes from the mounting systems underneath.

Just as a note....sometimes this type of question will be answered better on the 5th wheel RV forums. I have to go there when I had hitch questions. Usually you can get multiple answers to hitch questions fairly quickly.

Anyway here is the FAQ section on B&W addressing your question...it is like the 4th question down or so.

Doing a google search had multiple results...some had no problems installing using the turnover ball while others did have to do some mods. Try googling "B&W turnover ball with air bags Ford F350"
FAQ - Turnoverball? - Gooseneck Hitch | B & W Trailer Hitches

Also some Google results on forums

http://www.heartlandowners.org/showt...ver-ball-hitch

and
B&W turnover ball and ride-rite airbags

Usually you just have to tell the dealer what hitch frame mounting setup you have and they will get your Dad setup with the proper fitment.

Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools

2006 F350 4x4 FX4 CCDRW, 4.30 gears, Edge CTS, Edge EAS EGT, 19.5 Rims, Blue Spring, Riff Raff hot side boots, Zerex CAt-1, IPR coolant filter, Ecm rollback and FICM Atlas 40 PHP, DC 185 alternator, Rancho RS7000MT, Ranch 9000 on the rear, 08 tranny pan and filter, heavy duty IPR EGR cooler...that now has been plugged off.

I just picked up the Air Lift LoadLifter 5000 kit that fits trucks equipped with B&W hitch part # 1105 and # 1199R. I'll be installing it tomorrow (well, my brother will be installing it while I'm swapping out an EGR and Oil Cooler). I'll post pics of the finished product.

I picked it up off eBay for $269.

Another one here with the hideaway and bags. Ive never used the hitch but PO ( good friend ) used it every weekend towing his toy hauler with no problems.

Sold 01 350 6" on 37's and mild mods, 00 X 4" on 35's, 02 f350 4" 35's molded from fan to drive shaft, ridin the 03 with nose conversion with 125k and counting upwards slowly.
Never had CNC on any of it, never will.
Take 3/4 of the info and recommendations on here with a grain of salt

My dad and I could figure out why a set of bags could not be installed with the hitch installed. So thanks guys. If you have pictures that would help my dad. Thanks.
