Front Grille, customized. 2006 CCSB FX4

Hey there fellow PS'ers. I took a stab at the grill mod myself instead buying one and going that route. Turns out that it costs about $22.00 rather than buying a grille or grille insert. Here are the pics of the progress. Enjoy

Here is the original that I was working with. A little too much chrome for my liking

Here is a pic of the back of the grill. I had to snip the tabs of the insert in order to separate; Here is what it looks like after completion of the task.

After all the tabs are removed, this is what you will have

Then the ford emblem was removed

I took 80 grit sand paper via 1/4 hand sander to the entire surface to be painted and then followed it with 220, followed by 000 steel wool and swiped clean with cheese cloth. Then taped off the edges.

Here is the product after the Plastikote Primer/Paint Flat Black is applied

Untaped

I then prepared Plastic epoxy to affix the insert to the grille piece and let it dry for about an hour with a fan on it, about 80 degrees outside.

The Reinstall

After

Hope you enjoyed the thread, I like the look as it takes some chrome away from the front dress. I have been doing quite a few things like high idle mod, EGR Delete, SCT and stuff like that so I will post some more DIY in the future Happy Sunday!

That looks awesome! If you would've painted the other part black and kept the center chrome.. You woulda had a harley look alike! haha. Well done.

Yea, if the center wasn't weathered and the blue peeled off and chrome peeling I would have. I'm going to get the raised Ford writing free-handed and color-matched red.
