08 Tailgate

Well I have an 08 tailgate but what else do I need to make it fit? Any help or a point in the right direction to anyone who has done it would be great. Thanks

it easy!! just remove the inner panel. remove th two 5/16 bolts on bottom edge of gate (these hold the tosion rod in place) you need to have the inner access panel off to remove the torsion rod holder from in the gate. after that just slide the rod out through the mounting hole (where it meets the bed) and you're done.

If you want to utilize the torsion bar set up, you will need the mounting hardware for the bed of a 08'

It's that easy took me about 1/2 hour in total.

My 2008 Non-step write up

I left the torsion bar in. It is there to "assist" in ease of lifting the tailgate.

I don't have the step but others that have done it say it is the same as a non step. Have you located the two bolts on the bottom edge? Once you take them out the torsion rod will slide out the one mounting hole (the one that is round) you simply have to pull it out. The only reason for taking the inspection cover is to retrieve the hold down clamp from inside the tailgate. Step or not the guts are the same. If you have the step you might want to get the box mounts for an 08' so you can utilize the torsion assist, or do it like I described and your off and running.

The tailgate assembly for the non-step & the step version, are two completely different part numbers.

The step version on the inside is diff. to accept the step mechanism.

What a great idea, can you replace an 06' w/ an 08' tailgate w/ the step. Also, will the 08' taillights fit in an 06'?

08 tail lights

no. 2008 tail lights have different plugs from the back up up light to the wireing harness, however if you by a harness for the 08 it would work
