Tailgates

I need to find out if anyone has replaced their tailgate with the new 08 tailgate with the step built into it on later model ford pickup. I was told the sales manager where I bought my 05 F-350 that the new tailgates fit the pickup box on the older Ford trucks. In fact his comment was he will have to make sure the tailgates are locked to make none of them are stolen. My tailgate was damaged by a tranport company shipping my truck from South Dakota to Hawaii for a military move. I have a claim in on it and waiting for the shipping company to finish processing and investigating the damages. The local Ford dealer said the tailgate is about $400 and 2would take three weeks to get. So what is the answer folks, can I do this or not.

BamaF350 did it and he has a thread on it.. it was not the steped gate but still a 08 gate so i would think the install will be the same

450.00 will only buy the step itself if your gonna put it together piece by piece.

If you buy everything new from the dealer, your're looking at over a grand (painting it included)

I would try looking around on ebay for a take off before I spent the money at the dealer.
