my Antenna mount location

well, i made some posts awhile back about a CB, i got it, a new Uniden Bearcat Elite 78, "tweaked and peaked" and have had the antenna for a couple of years. i did the mounting of the antenna Friday, but have not installed the CB yet, will before Thursday....more pics to come.

may change location of antennae to inside of bed back left stake pocket later on.

all 3 components, Ball base, Spring, Antennae (10 FT whip) came Radio Shack!

Good Lord that thing is long! Hope it doesn't smack the tailgate!

I need to get mag mount antenna that I can run with my portable CB... think that would help get a little more distance?

I hate to tell you this. But you need the mount higher for better transmition and reception. I love 102 inch whips, I have one on my truck. It was mounted to my toolbox. But I removed the box for more bed room. Now I have it mounting on the front rail of the bed. But that location will soon be moved to a new one since I am adding a tonaeu cover.

that was my original location that i wanted, but the bed rail seems so weak, will def look into other location later on, but for SSS trip, it's put!

get a lil wil (Wilson), it's about $35.

Oh also make sure you have a good swr (standing wave ratio). If you do not have a good swr your gonna ruin the radio.

Well, how do you make sure? I have read you have to have a tester or something? Is there some way to just buy a certain antenna and lenght of cable and it be very close?
