THis is the place to get your struts.
Lift Supports Systems | Hood | Window | Trunk | Hatch | Auto Parts By Lou Talked about and highly rated on this fourm and others. Ive used them and no complaints. Also, easiest mod ever is get the longer struts to lift your ex gate higher. No more banged heads. I just bought these and its way higher and the short wife can still reach the handle. Researched another discussion on another forum and here is the critical data on the ex gate lift. With this info you can see the length difference between the 4x4 and 4x2 lifts and you can see you can get the longer ones and be way happier.
Rear Hatch strut data The extended length of the 4x4 lift support is 14". The extended length of the 4x2 lift support is 14.72". The extended length of these is 15.87"! There is another support available with an extended support length of 15.25". The liftgate will support all the way up to 16.5" before hitting the roof of the vehicle. Someone 5'4" can reach the pulldown handle all the way to 16.25". The only thing to watch out for is the liftgate hitting the roof of your garage if the ceilings are low. Good luck fellas. |

So 16.5" is the longest gas shock that will fit an Excursion's rear hatch and still not have any issues with the compressed length? Also, does anyone have a link to it. I have a power lift for my wife's wheelchair and a little extra height on the hatch would be great to have.
