Painting Lariat Grill?

Anyone tried painting a chrome lariat grill to match a black and chrome harley grill?

I can get this grill for pretty cheap, but really wanted the black harley version on my truck with the harley light combo.




Anyone have any experiences or suggestions that they could share. Ideally I would like the tape off the billet bars in the middle and the small strip around the edges of the bars and keep that chrome while just painting the larger outside part of the grill.. If that makes any sense.

I had mine painted at a body shop.
they scuffed it and etched it then sprayed it black.
was over a year ago and it has not chipped or peeled

Why not just buy a Harley grille and paint it? Can get them on Rock Auto for $73.

Cheapest I was able to find a Harley grill was 180 and I can get this lariat for 75. But if I can get a Harley for that price and same the money, time and aggravation of painting the lariat grill then it would be worth it.
